When Mercedes crammed a 5.4-liter V-8 into its ML-class truck and named it the ML55 AMG in 1999, it effectively established the factory-built high-performance luxury SUV. The revised 2021 GLE63 S is one of the most recent to continue the megahorsepower lineage. The AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 is lowered into the capacious bonnet to begin the transformation. The engine is hand-built and produces 612 horsepower. Not only that, but this AMG engine now has a 22-hp electronic boost. While total system power never exceeds 612hp, the EQ Boost starter-alternator (located between the engine and the transmission) produces an extra 250Nm of torque, which helps offset the GLE Coupe's 2,445kg kerb weight.
