It doesn't matter where you come from: You know the song 
"Sweet Home Alabama." The lyrics are probably burned in your 
brain, and we doubt you can resist the urge to dance when that 
main guitar riff starts up. The song was written in response to 
two Neil Young compositions: "Southern Man" and "Alabama", 
both of which deal with themes of racism and slavery in the 
southern United States.

Despite the controversy, the Lynyrd Skynyrd theme reached 
number eight on the US chart in 1974 and was the group's 
second major hit after ‘Free Bird’.  Lynyrd Skynyrd is a Southern rock band from Jacksonville, 
Florida. But in many ways, they aren’t a typical southern rock 
band. Combining their intense lyrical content, the distinctive 
musical style of playing steady rock & roll in live 
performances, as well as their ability to move into the genres of 
country music and blues rock, the group has earned praise 
from criticism over the Years
